FDA this month issued a warning about increased suicidality in patients using antiepileptic drugs (AEDs). They analysed 199 placebo-controlled trials concerning 11 antiepileptic drugs. They searched for patients demonstrating suicidal behavior or suicidal ideation in a sample of 43,892 antiepileptic drug users. The conclusion was that patients on AEDs showed a significantlly increased suicidal behavior or ideation comparing to placebo! We should mention that 4 suicides where committed in this group.
